No heat for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis responds badly to heat. Although osteoarthritis may find some relief from hot packs, paraffin baths, or fluido therapy, rheumatoid arthritis can actually be made worse by these treatments. This is because rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease. Heat increases metabolism and inflammation. If you need immediate pain relief for rheumatoid arthritis, a cold pack, iced towel, or ice massage would do best. These treatments may sting a bit at first, but within about 6 minutes, your body will no longer sense the cold as a pain but as a relief.
