Blue Cohosh


 

Blue cohosh is a perennial that grows in moist, shady areas from southeastern Canada to the Carolinas. The two foot plants bear greenish-purple flowers in May and June. Roots are collected and dried in the fall. Native Americans called the plant "papoose root" or "squaw root."
