Treating the whole person to fight this disease
A holistic approach to addiction
Read more at www.altmeds.comAddiction is a dependence on a behavior or substance that a person is powerless to stop. Addiction has been extended, however, to include mood-altering behaviors or activities. Some researchers speak of two types of addictions: substance addictions (for example, alcoholism, drug abuse, and smoking); and process addictions (for example, gambling, spending, shopping, eating, and sexual activity). There is a growing recognition that many addicts are addicted to more than one substance or process. An example of that is when the alcoholic quits drinking, they often turn to sweets, caffeine or nicotine or many things at once. Many will spend years of their life going from one thing to the next until they learn how to identify the behavior before it starts to be a problem.
