Doulas best at labor assistance

Women assisted through labor by loved ones or professional labor assistants called “doulas” may have a better chance of a vaginal birth and a healthy baby.

Research published by the Cochrane Collaboration, an international organization that evaluates medical research, looked at the results of labors in which the mother received continuous, one-to-one support from either a partner or family member, a hospital staffer, or a trained labor and delivery assistant who was unrelated to the patient and not employed by the hospital.
