Jaundice is a symptom in which the skin and whites of the eyes take on a yellow coloration and the urine appears darker than normal. Jaundice usually indicates a problem with the liver or digestive organs, although it can appear in newborn babies as a result of their adjusting blood supply or incompatibility with the mother's blood type.

Jaundice with nausea, vomiting and discomfort under the right ribcage suggest a problem involving the liver, including cirrhosis or hepatitis. Jaundice accompanied by pale-colored stools and itchy skin indicate a blockage in the bile duct caused by a tumor, parasites, gallstones, or other causes.
