The maitake mushroom (Grifola frondosa) is indigenous to northeastern Japan and has been prized in traditional Japanese herbology. It is rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin D-2, Vitamin B-2, niacin, magnesium, potassium, calcium, dietary fibers, and amino acids. Maitake mushroom is known as a first-class adaptogen, a substance that boosts optimal functioning of all bodily systems. It has a high content of the polysaccharide compound Beta-glucan, which is known to enhance cellular immune function. Studies indicate that the fruit body of the whole maitake mushroom helps to regulate blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, and body weight. It is also used as an herbal treatment for constipation.
