Could we be wrong about germs and disease?
Do germs really cause disease? Or would it be more appropriate to think of germs as being attracted to unhealthy conditions? Some people say our fear of germs is the result of an intentional effort by the major pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries to persuade us that every microbe is a potential disease. But our own experience shows that not everyone exposed to a germ catches a disease.
