Figwort (Scrophularia nodosa) is a tall, snapdragon-like plant grown in Europe and the United Kingdom that contains iridoids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids. The dried leaves are sometimes used by herbalists for external applications to treat skin chronic skin conditions such as eczema (a type of skin inflammation), itching, and psoriasis (scaly, raised skin patches). The Chinese also use the root. Figwort is available as a tincture, compress, soak, and a wash. Figwort can stimulate the heart, so it should not be used by indivuals with heart disease.
