Water fennel is a mild narcotic stimulant, expectorant, alterative, and diuretic. In large doses, it produces dizziness, inebriation, and dull pains in the head. The seeds have been most successfully used in chronic affections of the air-passages, as laryngitis, asthma, hemoptysis, catarrh, etc.; also in periodical febrile diseases, dyspeptic affections, and in indolent ulcerations.
