Idol contestant speaks out for IBD

Casey Abrams, one of last season’s most popular contestants on American Idol, wants the world to know that he has an Inflammatory bowel disease to raise awareness of this condition.

Abrams, whose stand-up bass playing skill and scruffy red beard made him a favorite among Idol viewers, wants to publicize an effort by Janssen Biotech, Inc.—which partnered with the Crohn’s and colitis Foundation of America to create a web site for people with irritable bowel disease.

Patients can post their stories there and have a chance to win the title of “IBD Icon.” IBD includes the chronic digestive diseases, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. More than 1.4 million Americans have IBD.
