Complementary medicine is the use of unconventional therapies as a supplement to conventional medicine. Many of these unconventional therapies are now being recognized and integrated with conventional health services. Integrative medicine combines conventional medicine and complementary approaches and supplements. Neither of these approaches replace conventional therapy.

Complementary medicines can be beneficial in managing symptoms, increase quality of life and a sense of well-being, improving the efficacy of other treatments, and in some cases, curing illness.
