Six ways to fight trigeminal neuralgia pain

Do you have trigeminal neuralgia? This painful condition can cause burning or shooting pains in the face, usually on only one side. Trigeminal neuralgia is caused by irritation of the trigeminal nerve. This irritation can be caused by some serious diseases, including multiple sclerosis and cancer, so rule these out first. But in many cases, there is no known cause.

Some things you can try for trigeminal neuralgia:

1.       Vitamin B12. If you don’t eat animal products, you might not be getting enough B12 in your diet. Try a supplement to see if it helps your symptoms.

2.       Omega 3 from flaxseed, fish oil, olive oil, or nuts. Omega 3 can fortify your nervous system.

3.       Mega-vitamin therapy. Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the diseases for which mega-vitamin therapy has been successful, but don’t try this at home. Mega-vitamin dosing should be undertaken only with guidance from an experienced medical professional.

4.       Homeopathic remedies. Trigeminal neuralgia may be the result of several subtle imbalances in the body, so it’s best to avoid one-size-fits-all homeopathic remedies and find an experienced homeopath who will help you bring your body back into balance.

5.       Acupuncture. A recent study showed that nearly half of dental patients with trigeminal neuralgia reported significant relief after a series of meridian acupuncture treatments.

6.       St. John’s Wort. An herbal anti-depressant that has been used for hundreds of years to treat nerve pain as well as depression.
