Common Colds

A cold can be caused by any one of more than 200 viruses. Infection inflames the membranes that line the nose, throat, and sinuses, causing a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, coughs, and sometimes mild fever. Flu is a viral infection that produces symptoms similar to a cold, but more severe and often including high fever and muscle aches. Catching a cold is most likely when you are run down or under stress, and building up the immune system is an important part of treatment.
