Prostatitis

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland, which is part of the male sexual reproductive system. The inflammation can be caused by bacteria, but in more than 90 percent of the cases, no disease-causing agent is found; these cases are called chronic non-bacterial prostatitis. The main symptom of prostatitis is pelvic pain that lasts for several months, painful urination, or pain on ejaculation. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should be evaluated by a qualified medical professional to rule out bacterial prostatitis, which can be life-threatening. Prostatitis can also be asymptomatic and can show up as elevated white blood cell counts during routine blood analysis.
