In a Chinese study in 2009, 93 percent of patients treated with acupuncture found relief from their gout pain. Only 80 percent of those who used conventional pharmaceutical drugs got similar relief, and 47 percent of those patients experienced serious side effects. Side effects for acupuncture? None.

 

Researchers believe that by promoting circulation, acupuncture keeps uric acid crystals from forming in the joints. Two or three hourlong acupuncture treatments per week are suggested until acute pain diminishes; monthly treatments after that might keep gout at bay.
